Should You Eat Before or After Workout?

Cyclists on an empty stomach burn twice as much fat as those who drank a protein drink before training.

Exercising on an empty stomach can increase health benefits, writes the New York Times.

The study found that the results of physical training depend on when you eat and how much you eat.

It is known that any kind of training is good for our health. But the latest research shows that people respond differently to different types of exercise. Even if everyone did the same exercises, some of them would lose weight faster and more and establish blood sugar control.

Most scientists believe that our genetics, diet, physical fitness, character, and other aspects of life work together and it all depends on how our body responds to physical training.

But some scientists suspect that meal times also play a big role. Muscles need food, usually in the form of sugars or fats. The source of that fuel may be our last meal from which sugars and fats reach the bloodstream.

The scientists in this study divided the respondents into two groups. One group had a shake before exercise and the other had a Shake-like drink but had no calories. Some of the respondents did not know that they were practicing on an empty stomach.

After the exercise, each respondent received the opposite drink from the one who drank it before the exercise. This program lasted six weeks.

As expected, those who were physically active lost calories, and those who were diet-conscious and not exercising had no results.

Those who cycled on an empty stomach were found to have consumed twice as much fat as those who drank calorie before exercise.

These people also saw an improvement in their blood sugar levels.

The results suggest that you will achieve results if you eat before exercise.

The research is published in the journal Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism.
