The Switch is now the third best-selling home console from Nintendo

The Nintendo Switch sold more than 52 million units by the end of 2019, surpassing the sales result of another older Nintendo console.

Nintendo has updated its console sales results on December 31, 2019, on its official website. It was revealed that the Nintendo Switch sold 10.81 million units worldwide over the holiday period, with total sales reaching 52.48 million units in the nearly three years that the Switch has been on the market.

It is confirmed once again that the Switch is selling faster than the PlayStation 4, currently the best-selling eighth generation console. But for Nintendo, this result is important because, for the second decade in a row, they have a console that has sold more than home consoles for 30+ years. In particular, Switch is now Nintendo's third-best-selling home console because it outperformed the Super Nintendo console, which had a total sales of 49.10 million units.

According to Nintendo, the Switch is expected to sell another 19.5 million units by the end of 2020, surpassing Nintendo's first NES console. If such a rhythm continues in 2021, it is not impossible that one day the Switch will overtake the Wii console, which sold in 101.63 units. It is currently halfway there.
